Our Society is made up of people from different backgrounds who are united by a shared interest in the River Foss. Some participate in monitoring and practical activities, while others support events, communications, administration or the wider work of the Society.

You don’t need to be an environmental expert to become involved. Local knowledge, practical skills, professional experience and a willingness to help can all make a valuable contribution.

How do we work?

Much of our work is made possible by volunteers and members. We also value opportunities to work with local communities, schools, environmental groups and other organisations that share an interest in the river.

Our activities vary throughout the year and may include monitoring, practical conservation, events, educational activities and raising awareness of the issues affecting the River Foss.
